About Us

ZanaAfrica brings together the best of non-profit passion and business acumen to create a holistic, sustainable, and internationally replicable solution to help women thrive.

We will make pads and use profits to fund charitable profits, such as health education and policy advocacy. In this way, we not only model financial freedom while helping women find the same, but ensure responsible stewardship of resources by reducing reliance on donations.

ZanaAfrica Group is a Kenyan company whose profits will create an endowment for ZanaAfrica Foundation, a Kenyan non-governmental organization. American Friends of ZanaAfrica (AFZA) is a US 501(c)3 public charity supporting the social mission. All donations to AFZA are tax deductible and used exclusively for charitable purposes.

Anita Shankar

Anita Shankar
Role: Field Trainer

Why ZanaAfrica: I firmly believe that everyone has something to teach and something to  learn. Having obtained my Masters in Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill, I wanted to build upon my experience in health education and international development. I was drawn to ZanaAfrica’s mission of solving the root problems of gender inequality. Co-facilitating the EmpowerNet Clubs is the highlight of my week.

Bio: I am a trainer, learner, teacher and explorer. Originally from California, USA, I am thrilled to be living in Nairobi, Kenya. I love to learn and do so by various methods, mostly observing, pondering, reading, teaching and wandering. I’m happiest discovering a new neighborhood, hanging out with my kids or eating a piece of dark chocolate. I don’t travel light, and always carry food, drink, first aid supplies, entertainment and a clean tissue.
